The "nightcap" is one of the oldest myths in drinking culture. The idea that a drink before bed helps you sleep is so widespread it barely gets questioned. It is also, as sleep science has made abundantly clear, completely wrong. Alcohol helps you fall asleep faster while simultaneously destroying the quality of the sleep that follows. The Central Paradox
